Learn this and you'll be way ahead
Hello my friend:
Even though I don't watch much TV because of the rotting effect
it has on your brain, I saw a show a couple of months ago that,
I guess is pretty popular here in the states. It's called "Are
You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"
The whole idea, apparently, is to entertain us by embarrassing
adult contestants by asking them questions concerning Geography,
History, English, Math, etc. at get this... first through fifth
grade levels.
I admit I laughed a bit during the two shows that I caught
parts of, but I just couldn't handle watching a 30-something guy
with a wife and kids have to think hard about the answer to 5
times 2...
To me the real value in seeing a few minutes of that show,
watching people with master's degrees not able to spell second-
grade words is the validation that no matter how smart you are,
if you don't use it, you lose it. And even more importantly, if
you never knew it to begin with, you can't possibly use it.
This is an important distinction to never forget...
In that show, fifth-grade boys and girls make adults look
stupid not because these adults are necessarily stupid (yes,
some are), but because they haven't studied those topics in
decades... while the kids have studied the material much more
recently.
This is really a metaphor for all of life.
Knowledge not used is lost...
