What ocean waves and birds chirping WON'T do
Hello my friend:
Last week I discussed why talk therapy and typical self-
help products just set you up for failure when it comes to
helping you make real positive, lasting change.
But there was something I neglected to mention. Those
magical, mystical "subliminal programs."
You know the ones I mean. They have pleasant sounds of
ocean waves, waterfalls, birds chirping, and soothing
music. And 'underneath' these beautiful sounds are
wonderful, affirming messages that you can't hear, "but
your brain does and responds accordingly."
At least that's what the marketers of these programs claim.
As far as the affirming messages on these programs? Well,
you just have to 'trust' that the manufacturers actually

Look, if you work better or feel happier listening to
recordings of ocean waves and falling rain, go for it.
But if you think these subliminal CDs will deliver
genuine, permanent change on a subconscious level?
Not gonna happen.
The human ear would have to be many times more sensitive
in order to pick up the words. Many times more sensitive.
I had entire shelf dedicated to subliminal tapes,
including those from the two largest companies. Listened
day and night for two years.
Nothin.
Now, to be fair, a lot of people have indeed attribute
some positive life changes to subliminal tapes. So what
gives?
Well, studies show that this is the placebo affect at
work. The placebo affect is when you think something will
help you, so it does.
Even "fake" surgery where doctors don't actually do
anything to patients other than make an incision, has shown
to "heal" people from their problems.

expected side-effects because they believe they have been
given the drug.
The mind is great.
And this is what is happening whenever a subliminal tape
appears to have had any positive effect. All in the mind.
