The Marilyn Monroe syndrome
Hello my friend:
A couple nights ago, I was flipping the channels on the
remote and came across one of those Biography shows about
Marilyn Monroe. For the youngsters, she was one of the
first Hollywood bombshells, and possibly the most famous
woman of the 20th century.
Talk about someone having it all. Beautiful, successful.
Worshipped by millions. Married to one of the greatest
baseball players of all time, and to one of the greatest
American playwrights, too...
But looks and fame don't make a successful life...
Her personal life was a complete train wreck. She
regularly showed up hours late to the set and blew take
after take... She was a heavy boozer and a pill popper...
So tragic.
She was in therapy for years (she supposedly had a
marathon phone call with her psychiatrist the night she
died). And was completely exploited by the Hollywood studio
system (as well as a President, if the gossip is true).
Thing is, so many people are just like Marilyn.
Maybe not to that degree, but there is a lot of her in a
lot of people.
You could be a multi-millionaire, famous, attractive, have
an exciting job, and live a glamorous life. But so many
people, in spite of all their lucky breaks, and even hard
work and earned success, they're empty, broken shells on
the inside. In moments of honesty, I often hear that they
feel like they're failures, and completely unworthy of the
gifts that have been placed in their path.
Its only a matter of time, they say, when everyone will
figure out they're nothing but a fraud...
Sad. But avoidable.
If you examine and analyze these types of negative
thoughts and behaviors- like we did in researching our
Think Right Now program, 'Real Self Esteem Now'
- http://www.thinkrightnow.com/a/esteem.asp 99.9% of the
time, you can trace them back to a person's self-esteem,
and the image they have of themselves.
A healthy self-image usually begins when we're children.
But close to 85% of us don't get this critical training
during these years - even more true if you come from a
background of addiction, illness, or abuse.
The result? Career problems, dysfunctional relationships,
substance abuse - even suicide.
Until you let go of all these disempowering thoughts and
behaviors - really change them, down to the deep levels of
your subconscious mind - poor/unhealthy self-image will
continue to affect every single area your life right up
until the day you die.
So when I look around and see people that feel like hell
day in day out... spending life existing - not living...
I actually feel physical pain. Then I get charged up.
Because I know that changing the way you feel about
yourself is really something quite simple to accomplish, as
long as you have the right tools.
