Pet stores and medical clinics
Hi my friend,
Ever since we got back from Aruba, where 2-2.5 foot
iguanas roamed freely around the pool at our very luxurious
hotel (and everywhere else in on the island), I've been
considering the possibility of getting one for a pet.
But upon some investigation, it became clear that they are
not what I was looking for. Way too big. They can grow 5-
6 feet long.
So bearded dragons seemed more the thing...
Friendly, easier to take care of, entertaining, and a
WHOLE lot smaller.
But before taking the plunge into something that required
somewhat of a sizable investment in time, money and effort,
I investigated some more... talked to people, got a couple
books about the species.
And in one $13.00 book was an FAQ section...
A number of people asked essentially the same thing:
"I got a baby bearded dragon, a 10 gallon tank and a 100
watt heat lamp. My dragon died after two weeks. Why?"
The author said it is common for pet stores to take
people's money for a pet and the whole setup that is doomed
to kill the pet.
And the customer is an unwitting victim along with the
innocent, tortured, now dead baby lizard.
And this could be avoided completely if those pet store
owners truly cared for their customers and for the animals
they sell (And yes, happily, many do). But the customers
are also at fault. Because with an extremely small effort,
they could have learned that the small tanks and high heats
were guaranteed to slowly "cook" the lizards.
I hear similar stories like this every day from our
clients, only it's not pet stores they tell me stories
about.
It's about their doctors, at both private clinics and at
hospitals.
A typical person goes to the doctor feeling down about
some series of events in their lives. In less than 10
minutes of actual conversation, the white coat hands the
unwitting "patient" a piece of paper that might negatively
change their life forever.
Because instead of learning how to effectively deal with
their challenges in appropriate ways and becoming smarter,
stronger and more capable because of the challenge they
endured and overcame, they became the victim of a big ruse
on the part of the pharmaceutical companies that wants us
all to be customers.
They want us all to believe that our brains are not
right... that by design, we are all flawed and that their
chemical concoctions will balance us... that these drugs
have been tested and perfected and are our ticket to
happiness.
Or in another scenario, the person goes into the doctor
and complains of a pain or ache, dizziness, tiredness or
any one of hundreds of other unwanted physical symptoms
and, same thing...
In just 5 minutes, they hear, "Take this," as they're
handed a prescription for some pills designed to mask the
symptoms. Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't.
But there are always consequences.
The first of them are side-effects. Many times horrendous
unthinkable physical problems that dwarf the original
complaint.
The second, even greater, consequence is that you have
been conditioned to believe that there is no natural
solution to your particular problem... that they don't know
what caused it, but that drugs are the only possible answer.
Because why? Because our bodies are not built by our
creator right. There was a mistake. If we feel bad, we
must be broken. If we get sick, hmm, bad luck.
Couldn't be our dirty air, water, lack of physical
activity, or diets of greasy, chemicalized, sugary,
fattening, processed food-like stuff we shove into our
mouths from morning till night.
Nope. You need a pill.
And all those futuristic movies where our foods will come
in a pill form are eerily coming true.
If you are on some psychotropic drug because of depression
or anxiety or ADD/ADHD, or on some heart, blood pressure or
any one of hundreds of other medications due to elevated
levels of something in your blood, it's time to stop
listening to the pet store clerks... oh, I mean doctors and
start doing some investigating on your own.
Because it's not a $50 pet your killing (not to demean the
value of any pet), it's you... and your off-spring you'll
be teaching this whole sick ritual to.
Your brain, in all probability works perfectly. It's
doing what it does. You just need to learn how to use more
of the abilities it has.
And your body, although unique, responds in very similar
ways to everyone else's body... when you treat it right, it
responds by feeling good, looking good, staying at a normal
weight and living well into your 90s and beyond.
We just need to learn how use our brains.
I know our particular brand of self-help is different than
most... this thought and behavior modification stuff.
But that is what makes it so exciting.
Because you can absolutely have great health if you treat
your body right with proper diet and exercise. And it
always works beautifully.
But do you do it?
Or are there always dozens of good sounding excuses why
you can't and won't?
That is why behavior modification.
Do you have so many things to be grateful for, happy about
(compared to those living in Iraq, Darfur, Russia, North
Korea, Afghanistan and many other spots)?
But our media machine is turning us all into cry babies
who want to live like billionaires (and right now), and if
we don't get it, we get depressed and angry.
That is why behavior modification.
Because you can get what you want. You can be more, do
more, have more. And you can be happy in your PURSUIT of it.
Pursuit... because we all have to earn our wonderful
lives. No one is going to give you anything.
You must do what you need to do to get it. You must be
your own solution.
Grow stronger, wiser and more capable and, hey, you just
might be part of the solution to not just your own little
problems, but you might even be able to help dozens and
thousands and even millions of people around the globe
one day.
It all starts with you.
Don't be like those who think that store clerks and
doctors have all the answers.
A little investment in time and/or money to learn what you
need to know can almost always get you where you want to go
faster, easier and more certainly than just standing in
line, waiting for your pill.
Love,
Mike Brescia
